16 Summer Backyard Water Party Must Haves
With my 5 kiddos, it is nearly impossible to go to the pool. I brave it every now and then when I can con my Mom into coming with me. It’s hard because it gets HOT outside in the summer and the kids sometimes don’t want to go out there unless water is involved. I have had a ton of “hang out all day in your swimsuit with the hose and a baby pool” days. My kids pretty much live in their swim suits in the summer. So, I have gathered pics of all my favorite Backyard Water Party Must Haves to give you some ideas of fun things you can do in your backyard this summer.
Wiggling Water Sprinkler– This is probably the first thing that the kids ask for when they want to swim…Can we run in the sprinklers? I used to just turn on our sprinkler system which turns off every 10 minutes and I am running in and out of the garage trying to keep the kids happy. I love this wiggling water sprinkler, it sprays low enough that your kids aren’t getting sprayed in the face but it is really wide so lots of kids can play in it at the same time. This provides so much fun for the kids and you don’t have to worry about drowning.
Popsicles- Ummmm….. I pretty much stock up on popsicles all summer. All the neighbor kids know exactly where I keep them and they love love love a cool snack in the hot sun. Plus, they are such a low maintenance snack to keep them happy! I suggest leaving a garbage bag in the backyard and telling the kids that if you find popsicle sticks you won’t be happy. That will save you some clean up time later.
Goggles- My kids love goggles! They don’t even care if they are swimming in a deep pool or not, they are just as happy to stick their face in a kiddie pool and look around. There is something about being able to see in water that is magical. Goggles are one thing I insist on buying a good brand! No one wants to wear googles with water pouring into your eyes. I love Speedo brand and TYR brand. They both stay on and have easy adjusting to make them fit well.
Baby Pool– You don’t have to be a baby to love this! We love to just fill them with water and use them to fill squirt guns, also my baby loves to have a place to sit and swim. Sometimes I am completely amazed with how long these tiny pools will keep all of my kids entertained.
Watermelon- This is also the easiest snack ever!! It is cheap and I haven’t met a kid who doesn’t love watermelon. It is so juicy and yummy and is a perfect snack for little hands.
Water- We have a little drinking fountain in our backyard that my husband put together, but you are definetly going to want little water bottles or a pitcher of water for the kids. This way they aren’t trying to come inside with thier wet, grassy feet every 5 seconds.
Sunscreen– I am in love with the sunscreen that comes in these spray bottles. It is so nice to just have out on the table and be able to reapply with a quick spray down. I think every mom with little kids needs this. It takes way less time to just spray your kids down instead of rubbing lotion everywhere the sun will touch. I try to use at least spf 50 on my kids.
Water Balloons– I know these can be a moms nemesis, but they are kids favorite. I have some tricks to making water balloons last longer, you can create a fun game with them so that they have a purpose other than throwing them all at the ground watching them pop, or you can give each kid a certain amount and tell them they don’t get anymore after they use them. There are a ton of ideas on pinterest of games you can play with water balloons.
Baseball diamond water slide– I just got one of these and it is so cool. You can play water baseball or kickball and you have this fun slip n slide to get from base to base. Plus so many kids can play all at once which is really fun.
Baby Spring Float– I just have to rave about this for a minute. I got one of these 3 kids ago and it is seriously my favorite ever pool item. I like to put my baby in it in the deeper kids pool in my backyard. The way that it is designed makes it so that it is super hard to tip over or get out of. My baby just happily floats around and if she is in a place where her toes can reach, it is almost like a walker. It is the best baby float ever!! If you take it to the pool, you can let go of it and help other kids while your baby floats around. You gotta try it to know what I mean. It rocks!
Water Guns– Okay another thing that I have to rave about! With 3 boys, I have tried so many different squirt guns. They are such a pain. I have fell in love with these pull back squirt guns. I usually just have the small baby pool out or a big bucket of water and you just suck up the water by pulling back the handle and then you push it and squirt the water out. It is so easy that 2 year olds can do it and you aren’t constantly filling up water guns!
Kids Inflatable Pool– We already talked about the baby pool, but I love this for older kids. It is a couple feet deep so they think they are swimming and it fits more kids in it. I will put it on my patio and fill it up and then throw a tarp over it to keep the water warm and cleanish.
Tie-not water balloon tying tool– Okay this thing is amazing!! It is so easy the kids can fill and knot the water balloons. I absolutely love it! It hooks to the table and you just wrap the balloon around the tool and it ties a knot for you, no more cramping fingers tying hundreds of balloons.
Triple Racer Water Slide– I have one of these and I don’t know why but it is always a hit! The kids just love this slip n slide. Several kids can go down at once and if you blow up some tubes it is super fun to slide down! (I know that from experience) It has an area at the back that fills with water like a little pool and it is really fun!
Water Balloon Launcher– Here is another fun way to use water balloons a little slower. It is really fun to launch the balloons and see how far you can get them. Plus it is a good way for the kids to learn to work together.
Plastic Balls– I know these look more like they should be in Chuck E Cheese, but if you try this you will love it! My sister taught me this idea. You buy these ball pit balls and throw them in the pool. The kids love it! They will play for hours with these balls floating around in the water! The toddlers really find this fun! If you get a net in there with them, they will really love it!
You can’t go wrong with a backyard water party! My kids seriously love playing in water during the summer. They would be happy doing it everyday! I hope this post helps you get your water party planned!
