4th of July Ribbon Garland
I decided to make this fun patriotic ribbon garland. It was so easy and turned out great! It is nice because it adds just a touch of patriotic decor and you can use it wherever. You can put it on your porch or use it to decorate when family or friends come over. Of course, you can also make a garland with whatever colors you want using this tutorial.
First you need to choose several different patterns of ribbon. Make sure you pick one that is 5/8 inch. You will need the 5/8 inch ribbon to sew all the other pieces to. Here is a pic of the ribbon combo I used.
Cut and burn 3 inch strips of the different ribbons. You need about 12-15 strips of 5-6 different colors of ribbon to make a garland that is about 7 ft long. You also need to burn the bottom edge of the ribbon so that it doesn’t fray. If you want to learn how to measure, cut, and burn the ribbon edges in one step click here for a tutorial (it’s totally worth the time).
Next comes some sewing. I folded the 5/8″ piece of ribbon in half and tucked in the little ribbon strips one at a time into the fold as I sewed (I used white thread since the ribbon was white) down the ribbon.
I measured the distance between each ribbon by sewing until the last sewed ribbon hit the back of my sewing machine. I then stuck the next piece of ribbon in.
Keep doing this until the garland is as long as you like it to be. Mine is about 7 ft long and I love it! Let me know different color combos you use, I would love to see and hear from you in the comments below. I hope you have a wonderful day!
