With the 4th of July coming up, I have been excited to make different Patriotic decorations. I love love love tulle and thought it would be really fun to make a different kind of tulle garland. I love this because it looks like little fireworks strung on a string. This will make a perfect decoration for Fourth of July. Also, you can totally change up the colors and follow the same tutorial and make it for a totally different occasion. It would also be really cute above a bed or crib.
So here you go….
Firework Tulle Patriotic Garland Tutorial
The first thing you need to do is make a template to tie your puffs. To do that you just cut a 4 inch square out of cardboard, then you cut out a small slit in the middle. This is what determines the size of the puff, so feel free to make it bigger or smaller depending on how big you want your puff to be.
Now you are going to start to wrap your tulle around it, You are going to want to go in and out of the cardboard slit so that it makes an “8” around the cardboard
Keep doing this until there are 6 loops on each side.
Thread your needle and then thread in and out of the center line (where you cut out a slit of cardboard).
Pull the thread so it is tight and wrap it around the middle a couple times. Pull it tight and tie it in a knot so the middle stays tight. At the same time you tie the knot slide the puff off of the cardboard.
Where the tulle was wrapped around the carboard there are now loops. Cut each of the loops to make it look like a firework.
After you have all the loops cut you are going to have a puff that is flat and has all the ends cut.
Now you are going to fluff out the tulle so that it is a big poof. I made 18 of these little cuties!
Next, you take a string and tie the puffs about 12 inches apart along the string (I just tied the string around the center of the puffs). I like the different textures of the tulle. One has polka dots and one has stars in it, Two of them are glittery and the others are plain.
I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and that your garland turned out amazing!
