I have been thinking of what to do for the last day of school for my kids and I finally decided to make them an Summer Explorers Adventure Backpack! I love everything summer, I love when the stores come out with all the fun toys and gadgets to keep kids (and Moms) happy all summer long. In the summer, my kids pretty much just want to run outside with bare feet the second they wake up. They go outside and catch bugs and ride bikes and just play, I love that about them! This year I thought the perfect present would be a little simple backpack that they could just keep hung up by the door with all the essential summer fun stuff in it. I also included an little photo book from the dollar store that they can draw pictures of what they see or put in leaves and other things they collect.
Summer Explorers Adventure Backpack
Here is a list of all the stuff I included in their backpack
(all purchases at the dollar store so its super cheap)
-summer explorers field guide (photo book)
-4×6 blank notebook
-bug catching net
-small water bottle
There are tons of other things you could throw in there like a camera or coloring books or playing cards. I gave one to my little guy who just graduated from preschool and he loves it, he has been wearing it all over the house and loves to carry around his treasures.
I also made these printables to use as the cover for the field journals. I am giving each kid a photo book with a notebook of blank 4″ x 6″ papers so that they can make drawings or tape leaves and slide them into the pages of their field journals, then they can have a little book of things they collected over the summer.

I have 2 to a page in the pdf files just in case you need more than one.
I customized each of my kid’s field journals in PicMonkey. If you haven’t ever used it you gotta try. It is such a fun program to use! They have so many options and it has a great picture editor. It has tons of fonts and images you can use. You can just open these images in pic monkey and use the text tool to type your child’s name on the image. They even have a color picker tool so you can match any color you want. I seriously use it daily. You will love it!!
As for these cute little backpacks, I will have a tutorial up on Monday to make them! If you are interested, come back and check on Monday for a super easy backpack tutorial!
I hope your kids enjoy these as much as mine! Here’s to a summer full of fun and adventure!!
